“You seem like the type that can take a little teasing so I decided not to hold back.” Miriallia laughed.

The photographer really had wanted to hold the blonde’s hand. When Dearka moved his hand away from hers, the brunette immediately returned her hand to the strap of her purse. That was her confirmation-he hadn’t wanted to hold hands. She was rushing things and he didn’t seem to like it.

As Dearka explained what kind of rides he enjoyed, her blue eyes traveled in the direction of the ride. She probably should have been surprised, but since he made the comment earlier about another life in space she found it easy to believe. A pit formed in her stomach at the thought of going on it. Miriallia told herself that she wouldn’t back down. Dearka wanted to go on those rides she would give them a try regardless of how frightening they looked.

“Swings and ferris wheels can be fun. If they aren’t something you are interested in we don’t have to go on them. I don’t want to drag you onto anything you would find boring. We’re here to enjoy ourselves, right?” The brunette gave him a smile before bringing her attention back to the park.

“You can skip the carousel if you want. I really would like to go on it regardless, you can wait off to the side.” Miri said.

She didn’t want to completely give up one of her favorite starting points of an amusement park but she wouldn’t drag Dearka onto it if it was something he disliked. Miri was starting to think that maybe coming to the park had been a bad idea, they enjoyed different things (she wasn’t too scared to try some of the rides he liked) so maybe their “date” would be more like a day out with friends. She had been a fool for thinking anything more would come of them anyways.

“I met Flay through my friends Sai and Kuzzey.” The photographer explained. “I haven’t known her very long but once you get to know her she is a very nice girl.” She continued to maneuver through the crowds of people.

“You’re friends with Yzak Joule? How on Earth did that happen? I’ve only ever heard how much of a jerk he is.”

“I wouldn’t have mentioned them if I didn’t want to go on them,” Dearka said, blinking his amethyst eyes at Miriallia. For whatever reason, he suddenly got the impression that the girl who’d been so excited only moments ago was no longer enjoying herself as much. His eyebrows furrowed slightly. He didn’t really know why…Had he said something wrong? He didn’t think he had- they’d only been talking about rides. Maybe he was over-thinking things…she was still smiling. That was a good sign, wasn’t it?

The blonde eyed her carefully, though kept a grin on his face as he nudged her with his arm playfully. “Kind of doubt any of these rides would be boring with you on them. I want to go on whatever rides you go on. It’s a date, right?”

As they walked, Dearka listened to Miriallia talk about Flay, doing his best to bite his tongue. He highly doubted Flay had ever been a nice girl, and he was sure she took pleasure in being the exact opposite with the number of guys she’s made out with on the hockey team alone. He didn’t want to upset the girl though- he might have already done so by accident- so he kept his thoughts and opinions to himself, simply nodding in response.

Finally, they reached the lineup for the carousel and Dearka let Miriallia go ahead of him in gentlemanly fashion, before following her.

“Yzak’s my best friend- our parents have known each other forever because of their political careers. I guess he does come across as being a jerk, but he’s always stood up for me and doesn’t lie to me just to spare my feelings, which I appreciate.” He allowed Miriallia to get in line ahead of him. “You just got to know how to take him. He’s not as bad as he seems.”

I could have black mail if you ever make me really angry.” Miriallia gave him a smirk as she playfully bumped into his arm. The back of their hands brushing in the process cause a rush of heat to flood her.

The photographer wanted to take his hand so that everyone around them would know that he had come with her and so that other girls would know that he was taken (even if not officially). She didn’t have enough confidence in herself or any feelings the blonde might have had towards her in order to reach out to hold his hand. She didn’t want to ruin anything between them, just in case they only remained friends.

Once the pair reached the date, Miriallia handed the attendant their passes. He handed back two different badges for the two, wished them a good day. Smile a briefly smile at Dearka, she touched his hand with hers easing him through the gate. Her entire body screaming in delight at the contact with the hockey player.

“Rides that I like to go on?” Miriallia repeated. “Well, I enjoying on fast rides. Usually I prefer the ones a bit closer to the ground but I am not afraid to try the larger ones.”

Glancing around for the first time properly, the brunette was surprised to see just how busy the park was. She was suddenly very glad that she had her father get the VIP tickets. Her fingers still lingered against the palm of his hand. Slowly she began to pull her fingers away, the tips brushing against his. A shiver ran down Miriallia’s spine at the sensation.

“What about you? Do you have one that you would like to go on specifically?”

“You’ve got an evil streak, don’t you?” Dearka asked, grinning and bumping his arm gently back into hers. “I’m comfortable enough in my masculinity that a pink horse wouldn’t really phase me.”

As they passed through the gate, however, her hand touching his, the defenceman’s desire to lace their fingers together increased. Miriallia’s touch was gentle and soft- even moreso than he’d imagined it would be. His palm tingled as her narrow digits lingered against it, the sensation spreading to his fingers when they brushed against each other. It wasn’t a question anymore of holding her hand- it was how much longer he could hold himself back before he caved. They’d only just made it inside the park…

Dearka moved his hand away before he gave in and scratched the back of his neck sheepishly, hearing she preferred rides near the ground. That area was one where they differed. “I usually like anything with a bit of height to it actually- vertical drop kind of rides are my favourite.”

He motioned towards a ride that was closer to the back end of the park. It was a large metal tower with three sides that stood taller than most of the rides. A floorless gondola pulled a group of passengers to the very top of the tower, where it sat for a few seconds before promptly dropping them back down quickly. Anticipation built up in his stomach just watching it.

Though, there was a certain romantic quality to some of the other rides that stood tall, and he wondered if maybe that factored in to why he enjoyed them so much. “The swings and the ferris wheel have good views when you get up to the top, too. Everything looks so different from up there.”

He returned his gaze to his date, smiling as they wandered towards the area with the carousel. “How’d you get to be friends with Flay and that whole group, anyways?”

Why don’t you try going all around the colonies to check everything yourself and then tell me how long I should have taken to do that then.

And what….? Are you sure? Because if you are, we should burn your desk instead and get a new replacement. I don’t think I can look at your desk the same way again.

I was kidding, Yzak. If Mir and I were to “defile” something, as you put it, we wouldn’t tell you where. You have a security camera in your office- taking her there would be stupid.
